The PS5 has a huge box because it’s a huge console. You’ll want to carefully fold open the box and pull everything out. Inside you should find:
- the PS5 console itself,
- the DualSense wireless controller,
- HDMI cable, a power cable,
- USB C to USB A cable,
- the stand,
- and a handful of user manuals.
For now, separate everything from its twist ties and have it prepared for connecting to your console and TV.
Where should I place my PS5?
The PS5 comes with a stand. This allows you to set up the console vertically or horizontally. But which is best? The console functions just as well when set up vertically as it does horizontally. But choosing which way to position it may come down to your individual taste – or whichever way suits your current set-up.
Attach the PS5 base
Always attach the base to your PS5 console when setting it up for use. How you attach the base depends on how you want to place your PS5 console.
If you want to set up the console vertically, make sure to place the console facing up. This means that when you insert a disc the printed side will be facing to the left. When positioned vertically, the PS5 (and the Xbox Series X) looks like a specialized gaming PC tower. This may have been done to accommodate gamers who prefer to use PC monitors.
More and more gamers are doing this to take advantage of the visual benefits gaming monitors offer when compared to TV sets. The PS5’s vertical option allows gamers to neatly place the console where their PC tower would go.
If you prefer it horizontally, when you insert a disc the printed side will be facing down. When placed this way, the PS5 looks like most consoles. This is the traditional console position. Under our TVs in/on some form of cabinet.
Whether you choose the vertical or horizontal position always check that the screws are secured and the hole console correctly attached.
How to connect the PS5 to a display
- Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT port on the rear of the PS5.
- Insert the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI input on your display device.
- Insert the power cable into the AC IN connector on the rear of the PS5.
- Safely insert the power plug into a mains electrical outlet.
